Norwegian Rubyist August Lilleaas has been busy putting together a ton of examples of using the Net::HTTP Ruby library that comes with most Ruby distributions. I asked him if it'd be okay to put some of them directly on Ruby Inside for reference purposes and he said "No problem!"
"irst, in addition to our catalog, we indexed one of our digital repositories and the Library's web pages. We now have two types of facets: those that are applicable to all silos, and those that are silo-specific. For example, title and author relate to all silos, whereas call number subjects and digital collections are specific to a particular silo. We’ve implemented full-text indexes for our web pages using Nutch. We also created full-text indexes for digital repository documents using ExLibris’s APIs for DigiTool. Catalog availability data is being extracted from our Innovative ILS using Z39.50."

In case you don’t know about jQuery, it is a "write less, do more" Javascript library. It has many Ajax and Javascript features that allow you to enhance user experience and semantic coding. Since these tutorials are focused on jQuery, I’m not going to get into the details of the CSS."
"With what we know today, if we were to start again with a clean slate, how would we design a global communications infrastructure?"
