Towards an Economics of Happiness
"In the 1980s, for example, anthropologist Edward Schiefflin had to
abandon his attempt to study depression among the indigenous Kaluli of
New Guinea because there simply is no depression in that culture."

'Stumbling on Happiness,' by Daniel Gilbert - The New York Times Book Review - New York Times
I actually do not believe that happiness is about delusion. This is in parallel with notions about brains and lies. Rather, I believe our notions of visions, dreams, truth and lie, etc., are simply naive.

Reflections on Gandhi // George Orwell
"Close friendships, Gandhi says, are dangerous, because "friends react on one another" and through loyalty to a friend one can be led into wrong-doing. This is unquestionably true. Moreover, if one is to love God, or to love humanity as a whole, one cannot give one's preference to any individual person."

Why Socialists Don't believe in Fun // George Orwell
Video games and stories both entertain. We replace fear of violence, starvation, oppression, (and happiness in freedom from them,) with abstract tension and release: Learning maps and learning new skills (expertise.) Is utopia a land of games, and loving game players? Competition within a framework of cooperation? Or is this futile, and must people hate each other, to the core of their being, ready to commit murder, if there is to be meaningful love? Compare with Bioroids and in utopia Olympus in Appleseed. Though, Deunan seems to accept the superiority of the Bioroid way of life: Passion and inhuman care coexist. See also Reflections on Ghandi: A human cannot be a saint.
