as troubling as some of the quoted sentiments expressed in there are, I'll readily admit that her music has been deep down in me for most of my life, probably as much as that of any other musician. a tragic loss.
"NRCI is a suite of Pd tools designed to facilitate laptop ensemble performance, and to foster a culture of group musicmaking which emphasizes custom software design and improvisational practice. NRCI provides a large library of abstractions with a highly consistent interface; these modules ease the challenge of instrument design for novice performers, and aid in rapid development and live coding for advanced users. NRCI also implements a network protocol (based on Open Sound Control) which provides for the wireless exchange of control data and messaging around a group of performers in both improvisational and prestructured situations. NRCI is developed by Christopher Burns and Greg Surges with assistance from the members of the Milwaukee Laptop Orchestra (MiLO), and is freely available."

twenty years ago "night music" was my favorite show on tv. i remember most of these, though at some point it would fall off the air and come back on, which might explain why there are some i haven't seen before. i had at least a half dozen vhs tapes full of these episodes which i played over and over and over again. my favorite bits were zahar, leonard cohen and sonny rollins, and slim gaillard, but there were so many amazing performances, many by artists no longer with us. if you love music, you'd have loved this show. my tapes are long gone... but i can watch it again! yay internet. :)
"I really do think that people should probably lose their virginity before they start writing reviews for Pitchfork. You should keep things in order in your life before you become an éminence griseyou should do some drugs and fall in love, and then start judging people. Because then you'd actually know something about life, as opposed to just being afraid of it and, you know, thinking Menomena are important."
